A LITTLE ABOUT ME... A LITTLE ABOUT THE MISSION...

INTRODUCTION

Hello all!

My name is Tim Hill. I am a Navy veteran and recently converted Texan. My home of record is Southern Oregon and my wife and I decided to move to Corpus Christi to be closer to family. I am an outdoorsman at heart and enjoyed Southern Oregon’s unique freshwater fishery and vast wilderness for many years. Hooking up to my first oversized Black Drum however, has initiated a spark of interest in the sport of saltwater fishing. I find it enjoyable, challenging (even humbling at times) and educational for me.

Being new to Corpus, I didn’t have many resources to use in the form of teachers regarding fishing and after reflecting three years later, it was very frustrating having to do a lot of research and legwork myself. I say that with reservations, however, as many of the seasoned fishermen of the area had to find out information organically before the age of the internet, which is a honey-hole that I continue to come back to in order to stay sharp myself. This doesn’t discount the courteous and kind-hearted group of anglers that have shown me techniques and tactics along the way. You will always need help from someone to become the best version of yourself, regardless of if you are fishing or not.

After having a high degree of success (and a few failures along the way, (it's fishing), I have evolved from that 38 inch Black Drum on a "cold" Halloween night, to catching over 70+ notable fish since October of 2020 including giant Greater hammers and Tiger Sharks, multiple sharks over 10’, Blackfin Tuna out of a Kayak, big Jack Crevalle off of a jet ski in wild weather conditions, Mackerel off of the jetties and all but 3 of the better-known uncommon shark species to the Texas Gulf Shores.

I’m not sure what the magic number of years or fish is before you can call yourself knowledgeable, professional, or “the guru”, especially with a crowded pool of experienced, opinionated and occasionally egotistical anglers. But I can say that I, myself have learned a few things along the way that helped propel my success to where it’s at now and I feel that I have a unique ability to write and teach about the subject matter in a way that speaks to the novice that is interested in the sport. Call it “amateur” information for the “novice” fisherman.

The name "Silver Spoon FIshing" has dual meaning to me. A silver spoon is my go-to lure in my tackle bag and is usually my "search bait" when fishing the surf and jetties (90% of my fishing time spent is at these locations). I have also been fortunate to make a living that allows me to afford high quality gear that my peers constantly tease me about. I am much more confident knowing that my abilities are the culprit of losing fish rather than low quality gear, which enhances my ability to problem solve out on the water.

It is not my intention currently to sell leaders, lures, apparel, or other aspects of business other than blogging at this time. (though I do have aspirations to try at some point). I also am not attempting to undercut local guides, who teach this information at a premium. I do enjoy writing as it is somewhat therapeutic to me, so naturally, I figured starting a blog about one of my passions would be a good start, posting information that one can sift through without fear of being berated by superior anglers and gatekeepers of the sport.

I am an advocate for fishing conservation and will continue to promote it. I am experienced in Inshore/Jetty fishing and excel in the Surf and LBSF (Land Based Shark Fishing) arenas. I will elaborate on what I’ve learned so far in other articles. If you have got this far, thank you for your support and hope you enjoy these articles. If you have any constructive feedback (a type of feedback that offers specific and actionable advice to help a person to improve), please utilize the links provided.
